We Don't Know What Tomorrow Holds

After hearing of the news of a very untimely death, just this morning, my mind rushes to Scripture as it reminds us that we simply do not know what today, let alone tomorrow holds.  How can I stress hard and long enough that we must be ready to meet our Maker every single day.  If we think Covid-19 is the worst of our fears we are stupid and ignorant.  Are we ready to meet our final Judge and the ONLY way to Heaven?

  • Psalm 144:4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.
  • Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
  • Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
  • James 4:13-17 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
  • 1 Peter 1:24 For “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls,
  • Ephesians 5:15-17 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
  • Psalm 102:11 My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
  • 2 Samuel 14:14 We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God will not take away life, and he devises means so that the banished one will not remain an outcast.
  • Psalm 102:3 For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace.
  • Psalm 39:4 “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!
  • Isaiah 40:6 A voice says, “Cry!” And I said, “What shall I cry?” All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field.
  • Psalm 39:5 Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah
  • Psalm 78:39 He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes and comes not again.
  • Job 14:1 “Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble.
  • Psalm 89:47 Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man!
  • 1 Chronicles 29:15 For we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding.
  • Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
  • Isaiah 38:12 My dwelling is plucked up and removed from me like a shepherd's tent; like a weaver I have rolled up my life; he cuts me off from the loom; from day to night you bring me to an end;
  • Job 8:9 For we are but of yesterday and know nothing, for our days on earth are a shadow.
  • James 1:2-8 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. ...
  • Job 7:7 “Remember that my life is a breath; my eye will never again see good.
  • Ecclesiastes 1:4 A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever.
  • Psalm 39:11 When you discipline a man with rebukes for sin, you consume like a moth what is dear to him; surely all mankind is a mere breath! Selah
  • Job 9:25 “My days are swifter than a runner; they flee away; they see no good.
  • Job 14:2 He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not.
  • Ecclesiastes 6:12 For who knows what is good for man while he lives the few days of his vain life, which he passes like a shadow? For who can tell man what will be after him under the sun?
  • Hebrews 9:27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
  • Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
  • Psalm 90:9 For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh.

Be careful with today, we just don't know if we get tomorrow.
